Camera Movements
The learning process for the camera movements project involved the class watching a video or reading an article noting the different movements. After that, we went over the video and learned how the different movements are made and how they can be used to tell or further a story.
For this project, I had to create different clips with different camera movements and then combine them to make a cohesive story where all the clips have meaning. My experience with this project is different than any other project I've had to do for school, I've never had to film anything for school so this is new for me.
A challenge that I had with this project was being able to execute the shots and angles I wanted. It was a challenge because I was using an inanimate object that couldn't stand up on it's own, making it hard for me to not show my hand in the video. A success that I had creating the video was making the scenes match up and create a comprehensible clip that could fit into a story.
I learned the different camera movements and how to execute them well. I also learned ways to film and plan clips that create a story that makes sense.
If I could do something different with this project, I would do it with a partner. Having people to record instead an object would've made this project a lot easier to film. Also, if I had a partner I would finish the project faster than it took me, it didn't take me a long time but the process would've been faster.
Camera Shots and Angles
The learning process for the camera shots and angles lesson was us going around stations that were set up with pictures and descriptions of the camera shots and the angles. We had to match the examples to the angles and shots correctly, making it easier for us to identify the shots and angles
For this project, we had to show the different camera shots and angles that make an entire story through pictures. My experience with the project was that it was harder than the camera movements project because I had to tell a full length story and could only use pictures.
A challenge that I had making this project was the main object of the story was so small that I had to alternate cameras throughout the picture taking process and I had to maneuver the camera so that the object was focused on. A success I had while doing this project was the ability to get all the camera angles I wanted.
I learned how to take different camera shots and angles with different objects. I also learned how to integrate camera angles and shots within a story in a way that impacts the story in a constructive way.
If I could change one thing about this project, I would pick a bigger object to center in the story. It was a struggle to take consistent pictures with such a small subject.
